Dubai Government chose Oracle's E-business Suite 11i for its government-wide resource planning (GRP) implementation.

GRP's objective is to enable efficient planning and management for government resources. It will cover several areas of the e-government initiative including finance, budgeting, procurement and human resources management.

Government-wide resource planning implementation is expected in three years and will be led by the Ruler's Court.

Dubai E-government Executive Team expects government-wide sweeping productivity improvements in areas like purchasing, supplier relations, accounts payable, budgeting, financial-control, auditing and human resources management as a result of implementing the integrated Oracle E-business suite across the government.

"Our project will make Dubai Government a model e-government because it will enable e-services to customers and automate the internal processes for our employees," said Thani Al Zaffin, director of government information resources department, the Ruler's Court.

Government-wide resource planning will be implemented by a team of more than 50 professionals from the information resources Department in addition to representatives from selected government departments.

Oracle said modules selected for the project include, financials, contracts, project costing, treasury, inventory, purchasing, Internet procurement, human resources management system and payroll.

The project also introduces employees self service across many disciplines like purchasing, human resources, budgeting, reporting and consolidation of information.

This project will reach 40,000 employees across 24 government departments, said Husam Dajani, Oracle regional vice-president for Middle East.

The Dubai Government system, will be deployed on the Government Information Network (GIN) , a secure private network and will provide access to both employees and suppliers over the Internet via self-service portal.
