Dubai: Neveille de Noronha, the principal of Our Own High School at Al Warqa’a died on Monday evening in Bengaluru, India, following a heart attack.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday evening at the St Mary’s Church at 7pm.
It is understood that the principal was in India to recruit teachers.
“It is an irreparable loss for the school – for both students and teachers,” said Asha Charles, an English teacher.
He will be remembered as a great educator who strived for the betterment of the school, she said.
“Noronha was a thorough gentleman and had a vision for the school to excel both academically as well as in extra curricular activities,” said Hilal Yousuf, a chemistry teacher.
A postgraduate in English, Noronha was trained in Therapeutic Counselling in Vellore, in Community Development at Indian Social Institute, Bengaluru, and in school administration at Administrative Staff College, Hyderabad and the University of Illinois (Chicago) on a Fulbright scholarship.
As Principal of Nopany Vidyalaya, Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh awarded his school ‘The Telegraph School Award for Academic Excellence’.
Earlier Noronha was principal of Doha Modern Indian School, Qatar a GEMS managed co-educational senior secondary day boarding school.
He has been an educational correspondent for The Telegraph in Kolkata, broadcast live programmes for Doordarshan and addressed international forum in the US the Far East and Europe.
