Dubai: With crowds expected to flock to malls and tourist hotspots over Eid Al Fitr, Dubai Police have put in place security plans to bolster road safety and security this weekend.
Police said they would intensify patrolling on various internal and external roads, especially around slaughterhouses, in order to ensure smooth traffic, reduce congestion, and deal with any emergencies.
As many as 179 traffic patrol personnel will be on Dubai roads near mosques and malls during Eid Al Fitr holiday and will keep the public informed about alternative roads during heavy traffic.
Major-General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, said there will be round-the-clock patrolling during Eid. “All police stations are ready to address any problem,” Maj-Gen Al Mansouri said.
He urged the public to register for in-house security service through the police app or police website when they travel abroad. He also urged beach-goers not to carry money or expensive items
and to keep an eye on their children.
Brigadier Abdullah Ali Al Gaithi, director of Protective Security and Emergency Department, said the city has been divided into sectors and each sector further divided into smaller sectors for heightened security during the holiday.
“We have organised patrols around all shopping malls to respond to any emergency and also a team of police bicycle patrols will be at tourist destinations,” Brig Al Gaithi said.
Brigadier Colonel Jumaa Bin Suwaidan, deputy director of Traffic Department, said, “We will focus on the roads and exits around shopping malls. We will have 179 patrols around mosques in the early hours of Eid day which usually witnesses traffic jams.”
Land and sea safety is also being looked into. Brigadier Abdul Qader Al Bannai, director of Ports police station, said there will be many stations to deal with emergency situations during Eid, including 40 officers from the sea rescue department.
“We have sea stations for sea rescue operations. We have jet-skies and rescue boats to respond to any emergency situation round the clock,” Brig Al Bannai said.

Police urged the public to call on emergency number 999 or the non-emergency number 901 at anytime to report issues and use SOS service though Dubai Police app during safari and desert trips.
Brigadier Omar Al Shamsi, deputy director of Operations Affairs Department, said, “We have prepared staff to receive the calls. We will monitor the city from the command room, especially the parks, malls and market areas.”
