Dubai: Dubai Police’s Search and Rescue Department responded to 79 cases of children stuck in vehicles so far this year, a decrease of 86 during the same time period in 2016, a top official said.
Lieutenant Colonel Ahmad Atiq Burqibah, Deputy Director of the Search and Rescue Department at Dubai Police, said despite the warning and awareness campaign but the issue still persists.
“Parents should never leave their young children unattended in a car, even for a few minutes. Children like to imitate their parents, and they will play around and they can lock themselves in or, even worse, move the car and cause accidents,” he said.
He said people hear stories of children being locked in cars, but never think it can happen to them, so they take warnings lightly.
"The new cars has a start button and it easily can be used by children. They can suffocate and die. We rescued 79 children locked inside cars this year," Lt Col Burqibah added.
Meanwhile, he urged parents not to leave their children alone in swimming pools or when they go to the beaches.
