The Higher Colleges of Technology held its Annual Sports Day competition for Men's Colleges on March 18.
Over 1000 competitors and spectators were on hand to cheer the various teams and to participate in a friendly, but fierce, day of competition.
Competitions were held in football (11 and seven a-side); swimming; billiards; volleyball, basketball, and table tennis. Staff competitions in squash and tennis were also held. All in all the competition was fierce, but Dubai Men's College emerged the overall tournament winners with Sharjah Men's and Abu Dhabi Men's Colleges providing strong opposition.
This year marked the first time that the tournament was organised by the HCT Sports Association and all Colleges were involved in the organisation and delivery of Sports Day.
Sharjah Men's College was chosen as the venue due to its central location and the excellent facilities of University City.
The football final (11 a-side) provided a thrilling conclusion to the day when SMC faced off against DMC and finish regular time with a 0-0 score.
To break the tie, both teams participated in a penalty shootout where the tension mounted with each kick. At the end, Ahmed Abdullah Mohammed Al Ali, the goalkeeper for SMC provided the winning goal against his DMC opponent.
SMC triumphed in football and billiards; Ras Al Khaimah in seven a-side football; DMC in basketball, table tennis, and volleyball; and Abu Dhabi Men's college finished first in swimming.
