New unit shifts from reactive to preventive approach for faster child protection response
Dubai: In a significant move to strengthen child protection efforts, Dubai Courts has established a new Child Protection Case Registration Unit under the Family Claims Section in the Personal Status Department. The unit is designed to register, monitor, and respond to child protection cases with a focus on care, safety, and legal support for minors.
The initiative reflects Dubai Courts’ commitment to safeguarding children’s rights and aligns with the UAE’s Year of the Community and national goals of fostering a just, people-centered society. The new unit aims to shift the approach from reactive to preventive, creating faster, more effective responses to threats against children.
“This is not just a legal step—it’s an investment in our children’s future,” said Mohammed Al Obaidli, Executive Director of the Case Management Sector at Dubai Courts. “Protecting children’s rights is a top priority. We are providing the systems and tools necessary to shield minors and support families.”
The unit will work closely with entities such as Dubai Police, Public Prosecution, the Community Development Authority, and other key partners to streamline interventions and prevent harm. Strategic collaboration will enable quicker case handling and improved support for children in vulnerable situations.
Digital case registration and professional case management will be at the heart of operations. The unit will also handle referrals from other authorities and apply official child protection protocols in line with national laws.
In addition to managing cases, the unit will provide training for court staff, promote measurable performance improvements, and ensure ongoing coordination between judicial departments and external agencies. It will support minors under 18 who are involved in court cases or whose families are subject to court orders.
Key partners include the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, Dubai Foundation for Women and Children, Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation, and various internal divisions within Dubai Courts.
The launch of the child protection unit marks a broader shift in Dubai’s approach to justice—prioritising early intervention and holistic care. It also supports the emirate’s Vision 2030, positioning Dubai as a global leader in child safety, well-being, and human-centered governance.
“This unit embodies our vision for a safe, strong, and sustainable society,” Al Obaidli said.
