Dubai: In an initiative to promote the Arabic language and culture among the residents of Dubai, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry has launched a month-long campaign starting July 1.
Launched under the slogan, My Language My Identity, the initiative is in line with the recent recommendations of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.
With Bu Zayed as its mascot, the campaign will involve several activities like Arabic calligraphy art exhibition, distribution of brochures and display posters and art work in the Membership and Documentation Services Department as well as acquainting residents with everyday Arabic words and their meanings.
Dubai Chamber is also organising quiz contests and special Arabic courses for the staff comprising 30 nationalities. A special seminar will highlight the richness of the Arabic language and its significance in the UAE society. The staff will also have a unified signature promoting the Arabic month initiative.
Hamad Buamim, Director General, Dubai Chamber, highlighting the importance of the initiative, said: “The Arabic language is the pillar of the Arab identity and a source of pride for all of us. It is deep-rooted in our culture. Therefore, it’s our responsibility to encourage a wider use of the language in our work environment.”
