Journalists writing in local, regional and international publications, have started submitting entries for the DSF 2002 Journalism Awards. The deadline for receiving entries is March 23, 2002.

Elham Abbas, Corporate Communications Director of DSF, said: "There has been extensive and high quality coverage of DSF in the local as well as foreign media. Foreign journalists who visited Dubai have already published their stories on Dubai Shopping Festival.

"Now they have started sending their published stories for the DSF Journalism Awards and we expect more entries as the deadline draws near."

The eight categories of DSF 2002 Journalism Awards are: UAE Story-English; UAE Story - Arabic; GCC Story - English/Arabic; PanArab Story - Arabic; International Story - English; Best Layout (visual appeal/design in a UAE publication); Best Overall Coverage (UAE Newspaper/magazine publishers) and Best Photograph (for UAE-based photographers).

"A distinguished panel of judges will assess the entries on the basis of the following parameters: Quality of Research, Writing Style, Quality of Content and Overall Presentation," Ms. Abbas said.

The jury is made up of Dr. Badran Badran from the communications department of Zayed University; Mona Al Marri, Executive Director of Dubai Press Club; Ghassan Thahboub, general manager, Communications & Research, The Executive Office, Dubai; Dr. Ayesha Al Nouaimi, lecturer, UAE University and Vivek Goenka, Chairman of Indian Express, New Delhi.

The DSF Journalism Awards were instituted in 1997 by the DSF Organising Committee. Each winner receives a crystal trophy, a certificate and $5,000. Winners are invited to Dubai to receive the awards at the closing ceremony.

To be eligible for the award, all entries must have been published between November 1, 2001 and March 23, 2002. Entries can be submitted by individual journalists or organisations, along with the original story and the entry form.

A journalist/organisation may send up to three entries, each with a separate entry form, attaching an original clipping of the story. The deadline for submitting entries is March 23, 2002.
