Dubai: Hyper Panda collected Dh540,000 this year, Dh170,000 more than last year, from its annual corporate responsibility campaign “Leave the Change to Change their Lives” that supports the UAE Down’s Syndrome Association (UAEDSA).

Customers shopping at the hypermarket are given the option of donating the change left over from their purchases to the association. The money for this year was collected starting September 2012.

Muwaffaq Mansour Jamal, CEO of Azizia Panda — Hyper Panda’s mother company — handed over the cheque to Sonya Al Hashemi, President of UAEDSA, in the presence of a group of the association’s members on December 18.

UAEDSA is a non-profit organisation that was accredited in September 2006 to serve people with Down’s syndrome in the UAE. The association has over 500 registered members, both Emiratis and expatriates.

The donations will help support the association’s activities and services, which include activities for members, awareness campaigns, family support programmes and various educational, medical and sport events for its members.
