Germany's Deutsche Babcock Energie has won a Dh16-million turnkey engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract from Abu Dhabi Refining Co (Takreer) to replace and expand the chlorine generation system at Ruwais refinery, a spokesman said. The work is to be completed by July 2002.
The project involves detailed design and installation of a new chlorination system to replace the present system with a sodium hypochlorite-based chlorine generation system.
It calls for installation of a chlorine generation plant, associated hypoclorite solution storage tanks, distribution and dosing systems. The plant's capacity is 300 kilos per hour.
Meanwhile, Takreer's General Utilities Plant expansion project in Ruwais is nearing completion and will be connected to the 220,000-volt Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity (Adwea) grid to exchange electrical power, according to "Takreer News".
Takreer will provide Adwea with up to 300 megawatts of electric power. All four turbine generators have been commissioned and the steam to sulphur project is in operation. Two boilers are available and the commissioning of the third is in progress.
Drinking water supplies to Borouge's petrochemicals project and Ruwais housing complex are functional as is the seawater cooling system for the Borouge project and GUP.
The report noted that the first distiller is operating and the second distiller is nearing completion while work on interconnection to the Adwea grid is at its peak. Target for completion of the grid interconnection is June 11 followed by full load performance testing of the gas turbine generators which is scheduled for completion by September.
