An exhibition presents an array of ornamental objects designed from natural crystals and semi-precious stones - ideal for the festive season
Twinkling stars and crescent moons dangle as crystal chimes on the window display at Aquarius, an art and framing gallery in Jumeirah Plaza this season.
Titled Crystals at Christmas, the exhibition presents an array of ornamental objects designed from natural crystals and semi-precious stones. It will be on view at the Aquarius until December 31.
Bunches of crystal grapes, hand-held size agates and Swarovski decorations adorn the table. Brazilian amethyst geodes derived from the depths of crystal mines majestically line the window. Necklaces, bracelets, spectacle chains crafted from natural crystals embellish the stands.
"To decorate your home or give as gifts, the theme of the display is festive to suit the season," says Wendy Glanville-Hall, the organiser of the exhibition. She is the owner of Sojourner, a New Age shop located at the General Supermarket, Trade Centre Apartments.
Her interest ranges from aromatherapy oils to candles, Feng Shui items, self-awareness books, herbal cushions and jewelry. But crystals are her speciality.
"I have always lived with crystals from the day my dad gave me one at the age of nine years old," recalls Wendy.
"The positive energy is undeniable. Although I am not a crystal healer, I have been a teacher of geology, geography and chemistry in the UK. Scientifically, we know that naturally-formed crystals and gemstones contain vibration rates that subtly affect changes in the body's energy pattern."
In conjunction with Wendy's crystal collection are an impressive variety of geodes, book ends and show pieces provided by Fida Abu Ali, general manager, Amethyst.
"The crystals and natural stones are from the mines in the mountains of Brazil that can go up to sizes of half metre high and weigh almost 200kg. This includes amethysts, citrine, gypsite and others. The response in UAE is incredible because it is not only beautiful but believed to have healing properties," he comments.
Joining in is Birgit E. Schurenberg, a qualified crystal therapist who crafts exquisite jewellery from natural gemstones. "I believe wearing crystals aids the healing process of any ailment, so my designs are functional as well attractive," she says.
Says Wendy, "I hope the exhibition of crystals will offer a sparkling glimpse of the season."
