Dubai: A housewife claimed that she did not know why she tried to kill her two sons and then herself when she entered a not guilty plea in court on Thursday.
The 24-year-old Bangladeshi mother stood trial before the Dubai Court of First Instance facing the accusations of premeditatedly attempting to suffocate her children, aged two and four, to death and also trying to kill herself.
The 39-year-old Bangladeshi father was said to have found his two sons motionless on their bed when he returned home from work, and also found his 24-year-old wife unmoving on the floor with a slit in her wrist in April 2017.
Shocked by what he had seen, the father immediately called his brother for help and then the mother and the two children were rushed to hospital.

When the father and his brother asked the woman about what had happened, the 24-year-old woman told them that she had suffocated her children with a pillow before she slit her wrist.
Prosecutors accused the woman of attempting to kill her two sons and trying to commit suicide.
“I do not know what I did or what had happened and why I did it. I also do not know why I tried to kill myself,” she contended before presiding judge Urfan Omar.
Asked by judge Omar if she suffered from any mental illness and whether she had been treated, the woman said: “I don’t know. I haven’t been treated and I do not know my situation.”
“Where are your children now and where is your husband? Have you been divorced?” the judge asked the suspect.
“My elder son is better and staying at home, while the two-year-old child remains in hospital. We are still married and my husband is at home,” she replied.
Her husband testified to prosecutors that he used his spare key to open the house door and enter after nobody answered him when he knocked on the door.
“Then I saw that shocking scene … my two children were pale and motionless on the bed. My wife had blood coming out from her wrist and she was on the floor. I phoned my brother quickly. He took my sons to hospital while my sister and I took my wife to the hospital,” he claimed to prosecutors.
The uncle confirmed his brother’s statement and claimed to prosecutors: “The four-year-old was moving very slowly while his younger brother was completely motionless.”
A police lieutenant told prosecutors that the suspect claimed that she tried to suffocate her children with a pillow and when she saw them motionless, she cut her wrist in a bid to kill herself.
The court will appoint a lawyer to defend the suspect when it reconvenes on April 23.
