Woman says she fell into prostituion ring
Dubai: A Pakistani woman who was offered a beauty salon job but fell into the hands of a prostitution ring told a court on Wednesday she was gang-raped by five men after they spiked her orange juice at a hotel in Karama.
She said a fellow countryman promised her a job at a beauty salon. But as soon as she landed in Dubai he asked her to work as a prostitute. “When I refused, he asked me to work as a maid. I agreed.”
She said the man refused to let her go back to her country and demanded Rs300,000 (Dh11,200) towards the cost of her visa and airfare.
“I told him if I had money, I wouldn’t have come here in the first place.” The woman said she was asked to serve men at a party in Karama.
“They spiked my juice and gang-raped me. When they were through, they kept my passport and threw me out,” said the woman, recalling how she dragged herself out of the building, hailed a taxi and went to a police station.
The police arrested one of the suspects but the others remain at large. Asked why she did not report the men when they asked her to work as a prostitute she said they threatened to kill her children if she let out their secret. The next hearing is on May 1.
