Sharjah: A woman who gave birth to a child by her brother has been arrested along with him and are awaiting retrial.
Police said S.M.A., a 22-year-old Pakistani, had a sexual relationship with his sister M.M.A, 20. The brother and sister used to live in Sharjah with their elder brother and their step mother after the death of their father four years ago.
M.M.A. told the court that every night when their stepmother and their elder brother used to go to bed she used to go to S.M.A. room and spend the night with him.
When she was six months pregnant, she escaped from the family house with her brother and they lived in Ajman. Police said that when the accused disappeared their elder brother, who used to take care of the family after the death of the father, searched for them. The elder brother came to know from relatives and friends that his younger sister and brother were living together in Ajman.
He informed police and they were arrested by Ajman police two months ago. The case was transferred to Sharjah, the place where they committed incest for the first time.
M.M.A. was nine-month pregnant when she was arrested and the child is now one-and-a-half months old. The Sharjah Sharia Court of First Instance sentenced both the accused to 90 lashes and three months in jail followed by deportation.
The two accused have appealed against the verdict and the case is being reviewed by the Appeal Court.
