Sharjah Police stress importance of community help in tackling online fraud
The Sharjah Police General Command has reported a noticeable drop in cybercrime rates during the first quarter of 2025. However, scams involving fake job offers and deceptive advertisements continue to top the list of reported cases.
Colonel Dr. Khalifa Yousif Al Bahlai, Director of Criminal Investigation at Sharjah Police, explained that fraudulent job postings and fake ads are among the most common forms of online scams seen recently.
These schemes typically lure victims with tempting job opportunities or too-good-to-be-true product deals posted on suspicious online platforms. The goal is either to steal personal information or fraudulently collect money.
Reports also include fake ads for products and services with unrealistic offers designed to trick consumers and take their money.
Colonel Al Bahlai pointed out that many cybercrimes stem from over-reliance on digital content, lack of cybersecurity awareness, and the ease with which fake online materials can be created.
He highlighted the importance of verifying sources, using strong passwords, and enabling two-factor authentication to protect against these threats.
Sharjah Police remains committed to public education on digital safety and encourages community members to report any suspected cybercrimes.
Residents can use the "Haris" service on the Sharjah Police website, or contact 0559992158 or 065943228 for cybercrime-related issues. In emergencies, the public can always reach out via 999.
