Dubai:Three men have been accused of attempting to steal eight pieces of menswear worth Dh699 by putting them in a bag and taking them out of a fashion shop.
Prosecutors said the three Sri Lankan men, 30-year-old M.F. and 24-year-old M.N., both salesmen, and 25-year-old accountant, M.M., hid the menswear in a bag and when they tried to take them out of the shop the alarm bell broke out.
“We did not try to steal any clothes. We are not guilty,” argued M.F. when he defended himself before the Dubai Court of First Instance.
His alleged crime partners also pleaded innocent when they entered their pleas before Presiding Judge Ahmad Abdul Mohsen Sheeha in courtroom seven.
According to the accusation sheet, prosecutors said M.F. took the pieces of menswear off the shelves and put them in a nylon bag. Then he handed them over to M.N. and M.M. to take them out of the shop.
Prosecution records said a security guard stopped the defendants from walking out of the shop as soon as the alarm went on.
An Egyptian salesman testified that the incident happened at the clothing shop in Mirdif City Centre on a Saturday afternoon.
“The Indian guard stopped M.N. and M.M. as soon as he heard the alarm. We searched their bags and discovered that they purchased four pieces of menswear and stole eight pieces. M.F., who worked in the fashion shop, put the eight pieces in the bag. He waited for them at the cashier to come and pay but he forgot to remove the security tag. And when they walked out, the alarm went on,” claimed the Egyptian.
A Omani policeman claimed that the defendants admitted that they agreed to steal the menswear.
The suspects asked the judge to adjourn the case until they hire a lawyer. The trial continues.
