Dubai: A supervisor has been jailed for three months for groping his female co-worker in a lift.
A Nepalese woman porter accompanied by her Indian supervisor, 28, to a building in Al Quoz to move furniture in July, when the defendant groped her in the elevator and kissed her.
The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the 28-year-old accused of groping his co-worker and sentenced him in absentia to three months in jail.
Presiding judge Fahd Al Shamsi said the accused will be deported following the completion of his punishment.
Records said the packaging company where the victim and her supervisor [defendant] worked had been hired to transport the furniture of a client.
The woman called the police who apprehended the supervisor.
In a second case, the accused was handed three months in jail after another court bench convicted him of groping another co-worker in Bur Dubai.
The Nepalese victim testified that she accompanied her boss to the building to move some furniture.
“He walked in behind me to the lift. He first touched my hand and then he groped me. He also kissed me against my will. I got angry and pushed him,” she told prosecutors.
A police sergeant testified that the accused alleged during questioning that he grabbed the woman to prevent her from falling in the lift and maintained that he didn’t grope her.
The defendant is entitled to a retrial once he turns himself in and contests the ruling.
