Sharjah : Sharjah Police have shared a revealing video on their social media platforms, exposing the hidden truths behind begging. The video documents a social experiment where a person posing as a beggar asks passersby for money for just one hour. The amount collected during the period is Dh367.

A police officer in the video says: “We are uncovering a shocking truth about begging. How much do you think a beggar can collect in just one hour? Let’s find out together.”

He goes on to explain how the real-life experiment exposed exploitation of people’s compassion during Ramadan.

If in just one hour, a sum of Dh367 has been collected, imagine if the begging continues all day long, the police officer asks.

Begging has evolved from a necessity to, unfortunately, a profession for some. Many people take advantage of public generosity to amass large sums of money, even though they may not genuinely need it.

The message of the video is simple: If you truly want to help those in need, make sure your support reaches the right place. Donate to trusted charities and avoid inadvertently encouraging the exploitation of beggars.

To report any suspicious begging activity, contact: 80040 and 901.
