Abu Dhabi: A mentally challenged boy’s screams from his ‘jail’ at home, revealed a life of abuse, which led his father to get a two-year prison sentence.
The public prosecution filed a lawsuit against the father after the man’s son was found deprived of food and covered in his own waste as the family went on an out-of-city vacation.
According to the details available from the court, the boy’s father left him alone confined to a room in his house and a left some food for him. The boy consumed the food on the first day after his father left it for him thinking the amount would last the boy the entire vacation {Number of days not given}
As the second day approached, the boy started starving and driven by his deteriorating mental state, he started shouting and screaming which drew the attention of a passer-by.
After the witness realised that no one was home, he called the police who broke the door down to find the boy in a a terrible inhuman state.
The officers gave the boy a biscuit to eat, which he consumed with its wrapper from the extent of his hunger.
Further investigations revealed that that the father of the boy previously had tied the boy with ropes to hide him, in shame from the family friends and neighbours. The man whose nationality is not revealed, gave his son food in plastic plates to eat and water in a bowl and treated him like an animal.
An official at the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department said that the information was being released in a bid to raise public awareness amongst public that those born with mental or physical disabilities must be treated well. The boy is currently being taken care of by a centre for humanitarian care which will provide him with the attention he requires. However, the official did not reveal more details about the type of disability the boy is suffering, his nationality, name and more detailsa about the case.
