Defendant pleads guilty, claims he was under emotional pressure at time of incident
Dubai: A man has been accused of threatening to kill a woman and telling her he would set her car on fire if she and her husband did not pay him Dh3,000.
The 42-year-old Indian, R.R, was said to have sent messages to the family threatening to hurt them and had asked them not to terminate him from work and to take his calls.
The complainant K.B. told prosecutors that around 10am the suspect had called his wife, A.B., and told her that they if they did not give him the money he would burn her car and kill her.
After calling her husband and telling him about the threat, K.B. asked his wife to call her brother-in-law to stay with her at home and then tell the police.
The defendant is then said to have gone to the victim’s building and asked the woman to open the door or else he would assault her and burn her car.
She immediately told the building’s security guard and reported the matter to the police.
Dubai Police later arrested R.R.
When the suspect appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance, he confessed to the charges but contended that he was under emotional pressure.
Medical reports confirmed that the defendant was not suffering from any psychological problems and that he was completely aware of his behaviour at the day of the incident.
A ruling will be heard on September 15.
