Lawyer accuses taxi driver of lying about the couple having sex in his taxi
Dubai: A lawyer lambasted a driver and accused him of telling lies by fabricating a story about a drunk couple getting naked and having sex in his taxi’s backseat.
The couple, a 27-year-old Irishman and a 29-year-old British woman, confessed to getting drunk but denied cuddling, fondling and having sex in the backseat of a taxi on Shaikh Zayed Road in May.
“The 27-year-old indulged in a heated argument with the taxi driver, who apparently took a longer route wanting to get extra commission over the fare. When the Irishman told the driver that he would report him to the police, the Pakistani driver stopped in front of the nearest police car and claimed that the couple undressed and had sex,” the couple’s lawyer Shaker Al Shummari contended before the Dubai Misdemeanor Court on Thursday.
The couple strongly denied the accusation of public indecency and denied the charge of getting naked and indulging in any form of sexual activity.
Prosecution records said when the driver spotted the couple making out in the backseat of his taxi, he pulled over in front of a police car and honked.
An Emirati policeman claimed that he spotted the woman naked and sitting on the lap of her partner, who had his jeans pulled down.
The policeman claimed the couple was involved in a form of indecent movement that made him think they were having sex.
“My clients went out of a hotel and jumped into the taxi. The suspects are residents of Dubai and they know its streets well. The Irishman had a heated argument with the driver when he took a longer route. The malicious driver fabricated this unrealistic and illogical story because my client said he would report him to the police. The driver and the policeman gave inconsistent statements… meanwhile the fact that the couple gave similar statements has come to firmly refute the driver’s allegations,” defended Al Shummari.
The advocate further asked the court to dismiss the charges of public indecency and having consensual sex, against his clients’.
“My clients are mature enough not to involve themselves in such an act. Dubai Police’s forensic report has conclusively confirmed that there were no signs or traces of any form of sexual interaction,” concluded Al Shummari.
The forensic report said there were no sign or traces of semen, or any form of a recent sexual activity.
The policeman testified that it was 10:30pm when the taxi pulled over in front of his patrol and pointed at the couple in the backseat.
“I spotted through the window the woman completely naked and she sat on the man’s lap. She was moving in a way that looked like they were having intercourse. The man’s jeans were down. When the couple saw me knocking for them at the window, they dressed,” claimed the policeman. The verdict in the case will be issued on November 22.
