Abu Dhabi/Ras Al Khaimah: Police have found three highly decomposed bodies of an Indian family in their house on Friday night in Ras Al Khaimah.

Police said the husband and the wife allegedly committed suicide after hanging their 8-year-old daughter.

The family may have ended their lives due to financial problems, and had never sought help from anybody due to pride, a relative and family friend told Gulf News on Sunday.

The bodies of Anil Kumar Nair, 44, his wife Sreeja, 31, and daughter Anusree, 8, were found at their residence in Julan area in Ras Al Khaimah. Sreeja was six months pregnant, according to a relative.

Police sources said according to forensic investigations, the man and his wife allegedly hanged their daughter, and then committed suicide by hanging themselves in their house.

Initial investigations pointed to financial problems as reason for the act, Brig Abdullah Khamis Al Hadidi, director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), said on Saturday.

Al Hadidi said police rushed to the house following a tip off that an awful odour was emanating from there.

Al Hadidi said the body of the father was hanging in the hall, while his wife's body was found hanging in a room and the body of their daughter in another room; her face was covered with a piece of cloth. He said the bodies were in high state of decomposition.

The bodies were transferred to the forensics laboratory for an autopsy, the official said. The case will be transferred to special authorities to complete other procedures, Al Hadidi added.

Jaffer Al Deen Abdul Salam, the Indian landlord of the house who tipped off the police, told Gulf News that he was aware of the family's financial problems as they had not paid rents for a few months.

Nair, a trailer driver, was running his own trailer service company and had liabilities due to problems in his business.

"I was asking him to give an application in writing which I could have handed over to the Indian community organisations and philanthropists, but he was reluctant to do so," Abdul Salam said.

Nair was not picking up phone calls from relatives and friends during the past six months, Ramesh Kumar, a relative said.
