Fitness instructor committed suicide in Jumairah, say police
Dubai: A man threw himself from the 25th floor of a building in Dubai, police said yesterday.
Police said a British fitness instructor, identified as Elwood Mcllwraith, committed suicide in Jumeirah while he was under the influence of alcohol.
Police said the 27-year-old British man died on the spot after he threw himself from the balcony of his apartment in a building in the Palm Jumeirah area.
Police said the young man was taking large amounts of alcohol.
Police confirmed that there is no suspicion of homicide behind the death of the man after an investigation in the incident and after questioning his wife, who was with him in the apartment before he fell from the balcony.
Dubai Police reported finding a young European man in a pool of blood in a floor under a building in the Jumeirah Palm pointing and that the police patrol moved immediately with team of investigative and forensic criminal evidence officers.
The police official said that investigations revealed that the young man was working as coach in one of the gyms in the city.
“The man was spending time with his wife with a number of his friends until 5pm in the evening last Friday and kept drinking alcohol until 8pm,” police said.
Police said that the wife of the deceased told police that she and her husband went together to visit a friend in the area of Dubai Marina and stayed with the friend until 10 pm and then they went to a nightclub until the middle of the night.
The wife told police that her husband quarrelled with one of the people in the night club and she and her husband were asked by the security to leave the place.
According to the woman, identified as S.M., a 26-year-old working in a company in Dubai, her husband becomes violent when he is drunk and starts to talk about the bad memories related to personal and family matters since he was a kid.
The wife said that at the night when her husband killed himself, she stayed in her room to avoid him because he became violent and started destroying the furniture in the house.
The wife told police that after 10 minutes in her room, she heard a sound and she went to the balcony and found every thing broken on the balcony and she did not see her husband and she looked down to see police and ambulance.
She said she went down to the road to see her husband dead in pool of blood.
Police said the body was taken to forensic lab.
“There is no suspicion of homicide behind the incident,” police said.
