Dubai: A driver, who molested a 13-year-old schoolboy and his eight-year-old sister in an electronics store, has been jailed for six months.

The New Zealander boy was checking out mobile phones in the store along with his younger sister when the 39-year-old Pakistani driver came from behind and molested them in April.

The defendant touched the girl’s backside around 10 times, as she was checking out laptops and then moved on to molest her brother who was standing at the mobile phone shelf.

The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the defendant of molesting the two minors.

When he appeared in court, the defendant pleaded not guilty and contended: “It happened by mistake.”

According to Wednesday’s ruling, presiding judge Fahd Al Shamsi said the accused will be deported.

The girl testified that she was checking the laptops at the store when the incident happened at 8pm.

“We were visiting the store with our father … my brother went to see the mobiles and I was checking the laptops. Suddenly the defendant came from behind and touched my posterior eight to 10 times. Then he chased my brother and behaved indecently with him. I overheard my brother telling the defendant that he will call the police,” she said.

The boy claimed that the defendant clutched his body to his.

The victims’ father said: “My daughter came up to me and told me that someone had touched her back 10 times … she also imitated what he did to her. Then my son also told me that the defendant had abused him. My children pointed at the defendant, who denied molesting my kids, when I confronted him. I called the store’s security guard and then reported the matter to the police.”

A policeman, who questioned the defendant, testified that the accused denied molesting the children.

The ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
