Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Police arrested six Arab nationals who were found smuggling 1.8 million banned Captagon pills valued at around Dh90 million, the police said on Monday.

In an operation called ‘the death trap’, police arrested culprits who were trying to smuggle the pills which they hid inside juicer machines’ spare parts.

They intended to sell the drugs inside the country, police said. The gang operated in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Colonel Taher Ghareeb Al Dhaheri, director of anti-narcotics directorate in the criminal security department of the police, said they had been nabbed acting on a tip-off.

The case has been referred to the judicial department for further action.

Al Dhaheri urged public to cooperate with the police in tracking down such drug peddlers. People can report such crimes to the police at 8002626.
