Sharjah: Authorities in Sharjah are searching for a woman who abandoned the body of a newborn in a landfill in the Al Saja’a area of the emirate.

A Sharjah Police official told Gulf News the body was dumped without any clothes on January 27.

The body was discovered by municipal workers during their routine waste collection and disposal rounds.

The baby, a fully developed girl, was found with the placenta still attached, indicating that she was discarded shortly after birth.

The body was found at approximately 5pm, following which it was taken to a hospital and sent to a forensic laboratory for an autopsy.

The case is currently under investigation.

Authorities are working together to identify the mother responsible for the abandonment.
