Abu Dhabi: In past five months, the Non-Muslims Will Registration Office in Abu Dhabi has registered 157 people’s will, a statement from the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department said on Monday.
The department has also reduced the service fee for the registration to Dh950.
The fee was Dh5,500 until November and Dh500 when the centre started operations in August.
Counsellor Yousuf Al Abri, undersecretary of the department, said, “The office raises the degree of legal protection for the assets of non-Muslims in Abu Dhabi. It grants non-Muslim expatriates a befitting choice of writing their will about the disposal of properties they may leave behind after their deaths.”
“It gives a sense of security to non-Muslim families, in case of death of their fathers or mothers, and it guarantees them the dispersal of their assets legally,” said Hamid Al Eidarous, administrative director of Notary Public and Documentation at the ADJD.
Residents can register their will in the English language.
The department said it will also issue introductory brochures of services in both Arabic and English, and post its details on the ADJD’s website and publicise through social media platforms, he said.
