Madam Jaffrey's curries contain a fascinating mix of ingredients. Normally one or two flavours stand out to distinguish each dish. OM Strategic's range of absolutely benchmarked, Alternative Investment Strategy (AIS) funds are similarly structured.

The OM-IP 220 Series 9 fund has just been cooked. OM Strategic is the chef operating out of the Man Group restaurant. If you fancy a taste you need to consume before September 19; it is a closed-end fund. Typical of the OM range, this has been capped at A$300 million.

Why should investors bite into this? One key flavour is the highly successful AHL Diversified team. This is, essentially, a traded futures house using computers, calculators and gizmos to make the most out of price inefficiencies in a range of markets. Not your average fund manager, but I am told, a bunch of "quantum physicists and math specialists".

This means I couldn't possibly understand them if I tried, but I can understand a compound return of 20.6 per annum per annum since 1990. That's an impressive performance.
