Khalid Jameel Vanjara is Dh2 million richer today, thanks to Mashreqbank's record-breaking Dh5 million anniversary draw.
Vanjara, who lives in Abu Dhabi, is not the only person celebrating a big win in the draw. Mohammed Nurul Absar, who also lives in Abu Dhabi, won Dh1 million in the same draw. Vanjara, 25, said he was stunned when he found out from his fiance that he had won the whopping Dh2 million multiplier prize draw.
A computer expert, Vanjara was in Mumbai when his father telephoned from Abu Dhabi to tell his bride-to-be to give him the good news.
Vanjara works in his father's trading company, but shuttles between India and the UAE. He has been investing in the MashreqMillionaire scheme since 1998 and has 122 certificates. He plans to invest the entire prize money in the MashreqMillionaire Investment Plan.
"The money will go towards planning for a better future for my entire family, my siblings' education and our family business," Vanjara said. By coincidence, Absar likewise had gone home to Bangladesh when the draw was held. He returned to the UAE unaware that he had won Dh1 million.
"I was ecstatic when the bank official called me telling me about the draw," he said.
Absar plans to make a donation to a school in his home town and set some money aside towards building homes for the homeless in Bangladesh. The owner of a small business, Absar, who originally owned 24 MashreqMillionaire Certificates, encashed four because he needed the money.
There were 10,302 winners in the MashreqMillionaire sixth anniversary draw. They included 100 prizes of Dh10,000, 200 prizes of Dh5,000 and 10,000 special prizes.
