Al Ain:

A three-year-old Emirati girl and her 30-year-old maid suffocated in house fire that broke out on Sunday afternoon at a house in Suweihan area.

Lieutenant Colonel Rashid Mohammad Hamarain Al Darmaki, director of Al Ain Civil Defence,, said the fire broke out around 2pm.

“Our control room received a call and emergency rescue teams were sent immediately along with officials from the rapid intervention and technical sections. They reached the place within five minutes,” he said.

Paramedics managed to rescue the girl and took her to Tawam Hospital in critical condition. According to Lieutenant Colonel Al Darmaki, the girl died in the hospital due to smoke inhalation while the Asian housemaid died on the spot of smoke inhalation .

The firefighters contained the situation within 20 minutes and extinguished the fire . The room was completely gutted. The police are conducting an investigation to ascertain the cause of fire.

Lt Col Al Darmaki appealed to owners of villas and small houses to adhere to safety requirements and keep a manual fire extinguishing device as a precaution in case of any fire incident.

The girl who died yesterday was the second child to die in the family. The first child, also a girl, drowned two years ago.
