Charity to unveil 2010 adventure to raise cash

Group has raised $1.5m from 26 challenges

Abu Dhabi An informative evening for adventurers looking for their next thrill will be held in Abu Dhabi this week by the Gulf for Good team to explain what challenges will be taking place next year and why each participant is asked to raise money for charity.

Gulf for Good (G4G) is a Dubai-based regional charity, founded in 2001 under the patronage of Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman and CEO of Emirates Group.

To date, the organisation's 26 adventure challenges in 17 countries have involved more than 500 participants from across the Gulf and have raised around $1.5 million (Dh5.5 million).

These funds have been donated to tangible and carefully thought out projects in the adventure challenge host countries in the Middle East, South America, Asia and Africa.

G4G has built hospitals, orphanages and schools, provided school transport and bought medical and computer equipment where they are urgently needed. Next year participants can merge charity work with adventure and opt for either a cycling and kayaking adventure in Thailand in February, trekking an eco-trail in Lebanon in May, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in July or cycling around Cuba in November.
