Calligraphy artist to display creations today

Acclaimed Japanese calligraphy artist Koshun Masunaga, who specialises in paintings in India ink, will be unveiling her unique creations at an exhibition which opens at Hunar Art Gallery today as part of the art events of Dubai Shopping Festival.

Acclaimed Japanese calligraphy artist Koshun Masunaga, who specialises in paintings in India ink, will be unveiling her unique creations at an exhibition which opens at Hunar Art Gallery today as part of the art events of Dubai Shopping Festival. The exhibition features hanging scroll type, India ink writing which expresses in depth the culture of Japan.

She will also be exhibiting her unique collection of ceramics designed and painted by her, and kilned in various shapes and forms in a new medium of expression. Koshun will also be demonstrating her calligraphy skills at the opening of The House of Talent exhibition at the Dubai World Trade Centre tomorrow.

Koshun, who was in Dubai last April, was seized by the uniqueness of the UAE culture and was inspired to produce some unusual works on the people, special women, and the desert with its wealth, its verdure, water and food.

She has produced some interesting works in India ink of Burj Al Arab, the dhows and ladies in abayas. India ink is characterised by its blackness. There are different shades of black, blue, green tea, reddish and purple for independent expressions of black. A single line or spots can only be drawn once and cannot be drawn over or erased.
