Abu Dhabi: The driver of the bus involved in the horrific Al Ain accident sustained moderate injuries and will be discharged from hospital soon, officials said yesterday.

“Mushtaq, 39, a Pakistani, has a facture on his right hand but his condition is stable,” Farooq Langove, Labour and Welfare Attaché at the Pakistani Embassy in Abu Dhabi, told Gulf News. Mushtaq is recuperating at the hospital, he said.

The driver of the truck that collided with the bus, is also a Pakistani and was arrested by the police, Langove said.

He said Mamoor Khan, in his 30s, is in police custody pending investigations.

A total of six Pakistanis were involved in the accident, Including the two drivers,

Four others are in hospitals, where the condition of one is critical. Thanwir Mohammad, a labourer, has received severe head injuries and is being treated at the intensive care unit of a hospital, Langove said.

The other three Pakistanis - Imran Rashid, 22, Nadeem Awan, 30 and Malik Tariq, 19 - have minor to moderate injuries and they are recuperating at the hospitals, he said.

Jamil Ahmad Khan, the Pakistani Ambassador, told Gulf News the embassy is extending all assistance to the injured. “We are giving all possible help to them,” he said.

As Gulf News reported yesterday, among the 24 dead, one was an Egyptian and another an Indian.

An Egyptian Embassy spokesman said: “We will do the needful for the repatriation or burial of the body in the UAE as the family wishes.”
