English learners to benefit from free product
Dubai: A new iPad application is set to help English-language learners improve their pronunciation.
"Sounds Right" has been launched by the British Council, is available free of charge via iTunes and was profiled in the iTunes store's new and noteworthy section.
The interactive pronunciation chart groups sounds by vowels, consonants and dipthongs and has examples of each in use.
It was originally created for interactive whiteboards for English courses held at British Council Teaching Centres. It is the latest in a series of free Learn English apps the British Council has developed for hand-held learning devices.
"These digital products demonstrate how the British Council is making its global expertise in teaching the English language available free to a wider audience," Nic Humphries, British Council Director for English, Mena region, said.
"The Arabic speaking world is experiencing phenomenal growth in the use of digital media and social networking. This new ... app and our Learn English range of products show how we are harnessing the growing popularity of digital media to complement classroom teaching. It gives students and teachers additional support for effective language learning," he said.
