Dubai: A long-haul flight from the United States has declared an emergency while en route to the United Kingdom.

British Airways flight BA228, which flew from Baltimore at 9.33pm on Wednesday has declared an emergency while approaching London airport, Airlive.net reported.

The Boeing 767-300, which was scheduled to land in Heathrow airport at 10am on Thursday, was flying over Wales when the incident was reported..

The airline had earlier issued an advisory over Twitter telling its passengers that “heavy rain and flooding may affect their journey to London’s airports” on Thursday.

Earlier this month, a British Airways flight declared an emergency just after taking off from Heathrow. The plane was supposed to fly to Leeds but it turned back to the airport moments after taking off due to a technical snag.

UPDATE: The plane has already landed safely. A British Airways spokesperson clarified that the incident was not considered an emergency in nature. The airline merely asked for a priority landing due to a small technica issue.

."The aircraft landed safely after the pilots took the precautionary decision to ask for a priority landing due to a minor technical fault. Our flight crew are highly trained to deal with this sort of eventuality and will always err on the side of caution," the airline said in a statement sent to Gulf News.
