Ras Al Khaimah: A four-year-old national boy has fallen ill after consuming bottled water contaminated with ink.

The boy was rushed to hospital following complaints of severe stomach pain after drinking the bottled water.

Physicians at the hospital immediately washed the boy's stomach.

According to the father of the young national, the sticker mentioning the desalination company's name and expiry date was left inside the water bottle, leading to the contamination of the water.

The civic department has started an investigation into the incident after receiving a complaint from the parent.

The nervous father approached the Ras Al Khaimah Police Department and filed a case against the emirate-based desalination plant and submitted the sticker and the inky cup of water as evidence.

The police referred the case to the municipality with a detailed report on the case, which initiated an investigation.

Mubarak Ali Al Shamsi, Director General of the Ras Al Khaimah Municipality, said civic officials are still investigating the case.

The father of the victim said further legal measures against the company will be taken once police and civic investigations are over.

Municipal sources said the company was officially told to put its production on hold until the completion of investigations.
