Ras Al Khaimah: A member of the police rescue team drowned in the sea after he reporteldy went fishing during bad weather conditions.

The body of the 26-year-old Pakistani, who was working in the rescue team of Ras Al Khaimah police, was recovered from the sea nine days after the incident happened, a police official told Gulf News yesterday.

The official said Mohammad M was reported missing on June 27 after he went on a fishing trip alone during his break time. "We found out that he was missing when his senior asked for him when he did not turn up on duty the next day.

"First, we thought he might have gone to Dubai or Sharjah because that is what he would normally do during his off days but we did not get any response even when we called his mobile phone," the official said.

Found his car

"Then one of his colleagues reported that he saw Mohammad preparing his diving equipment. We sent police patrol looking for him at Khor Khuwaire and found his car parked near the beach," he added.

The official said the police team also found his clothes inside the car and his fish hunting gun some 600m away on the beach. The police said the weather was rough that day with strong winds and high waves.

The police sent divers to search his body but it was difficult to conduct the search because of the rocky area.

"The drowned body normally surfaces after 12 to 24 hours but it did not happen," said the official.

After three days of searching, the marine rescue team at Ras Al Khaimah sought the help of Dubai Police to help in the search. The police said Mohammad's body was found by divers nine days after he went missing, trapped among coral reef and rocks.
