Ross Bain (EGC) shot a second round 71 to win the fourth Sharjah Men's Open at Sharjah Wanderers Golf Club yesterday.

At the start of the day Bain was one behind first round leader and current UGA Order of Merit leader Tisse Chandradasa (UGA) having shot 72 against a 71 from the Sri Lankan international.

Bain playing in the final group of the day with ultimate runner-up Chandradasa and Steve Chambers (AGGC) was always likely to produce the champion.

Bain's round consisted of 9's of 36 and 35 and after 27 holes was 1 ahead of eventual 4th placed Chambers and 2 ahead of Chandradasa. Bain had 4 birdies on the back 9 on holes 11, 12, 14 and 17 over the 6370 yards par 72 sand course to take the title by 2 shots.

Bain took both the 36-hole title and the first pro's prize of Dh3,000. Cyril Rozes (EPGA) took Dh2,000 and third-placed pro Martin Duff (UGA) received Dh1,000.

Others to feature in this third qualifying round of the UGA Order of Merit, sponsored by Gulf News, were 15-year-old Jon Jeffrey (AGGC), who finished second amateur and third overall.

Top net prize went to home player Euan Smylie on net 142 and leading junior (Not already in the prizes) went to Rami Belaid (ADGCS) with a 36 hole gross 162.

The prizes were presented by Club Captain Graham Thomson.
