AUS launches masters degree in Tesol
The American University of Sharjah (AUS) has launched a masters degree in teaching English to speakers of other languages (MA TESOL).
The programme is open both for English language teachers and fresh graduates but the university is seeking scholarships for it.
"The scholarships will be granted by private and public organisations and institutions to the best English language teacher in the UAE and other GCC countries," said Dr Maher Bahloul, the Programme Coordinator.
The AUS has asked directors of educational zones in the UAE and other Gulf countries to nominate the most outstanding teachers for the scholarship.
English language departments, education zones, colleges, universities, private and public sector institutions outside the GCC countries will nominate the best English language teachers for the Teaching Excellence International Scholarship Award and the Supervising Excellence International Scholarship Award.
It also offers a monthly payment plan for potential full time and part time students. A full time student taking three courses per semester and finishing it within 24 months, may apply to pay over 36 months.
Also, part time students taking one or two courses per semester and finishing within 36 months, may apply to pay over 48 months.
Accredited by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and organised by the AUS College of Arts and Sciences, MA TESOL is another step forward to enhance higher education in the field of teaching English as a second language.
With its experienced multicultural faculty, the programme provides students with solid foundations in second language acquisition, teaching methodology, language testing and the use of technology in teaching.
Dr Bahloul said having both professors and fresh BA graduates learning together, is another extraordinary opportunity that the two-year programme provides. "With the theoretical background still fresh in students' minds and the practical experience that teachers have, the two groups compliment each other," he said.
