Dubai: The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has named Emirati and international artists and the curator-in-residence selected for the 2013 edition of the Artists-in-Residence Dubai (A.I.R Dubai) programme.

Scheduled to be held from January 7 to March 31 at Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, A.I.R Dubai 2013 will feature Ammar Al Attar, Dina Danish, Ebtisam Abdul Aziz, Joe Namy, Reem Falaknaz, and Yudi Noor. The six artists will work alongside Berenice Saliou, the curator-in-residence.

The programme is organised in partnership with the Delfina Foundation, Art Dubai, and Tashkeel.

The residency programme will culminate in an Open Studios exhibition, which will be held parallel to the SIKKA Art Fair in March 2013, which will see artists open their studios for visitors. This experience will enable visitors to better appreciate each artist’s style or works in progress.

The international artists are also commissioned to create site-specific works for Art Dubai Projects, the critically-acclaimed, non-commercial programme of new works and performances that are vital to any art fair.

A.I.R Dubai aims to support artists by providing a platform to develop their practice and create new work, while facilitating exchange between the artists, the local communities, and the broader cultural landscape.

Salem Belyouha, projects and events director at Dubai Culture, said: “The selected artists for the 2013 edition of the programme are representative of the city’s multiculturalism, while symbolising the city’s spirit of global collaboration.”

Multidisciplinary artist, curator, and writer, Ebtisam Abdul Aziz incorporates her unique perspective on mathematics and the structures of systems to explore issues of identity and culture through installations, performance pieces, and works on paper. Her works also deal with everyday issues laden with psychological poignancies.

A.I.R 2013 Dubai will coincide with Art Week, Dubai’s premier umbrella arts initiative, which includes Art Dubai, Design Days Dubai, and SIKKA Art Fair, Dubai Culture’s contemporary art fair.
