Dubai Police said that Anees Ibrahim was referred to the Public Prosecution on charge of murdering a fellow Indian businessman four years ago. The police has strong evidence of Anees's role in the murder of Irfan G., whose remains were discovered recently in a villa in the Al Wasl area.
Anees, 42, who was arrested in Dubai on December 3, is also wanted by Indian authorities as one of the main suspects in the 1993 Mumbai blasts along with his brother Dawood Ibrahim.
"The UAE will not hand him over to another country unless he is convicted here of a crime we accuse him of committing on the soil of the UAE. If any country has an interest and evidence of his involvement in another crime it should wait till the end of his trial here."
Anees, who entered the country on false documents, was arrested a few days after his arrival.
"We have strong evidence of his involvement in the murder of a fellow businessman whose body was buried in a villa four years ago. The remains were uncovered recently by the owner of the villa who was doing some maintenance work," a source said.
The source added: The police were suspicious about Anees's role in the disappearance of an Indian and he was arrested at the time. He was freed because there was no evidence of the murder itself. Anees left the country after his release.
The remains of the victim were discovered in the villa in November, but his identity could not be established.
"The family of the victim has helped police in solving the mystery by identifying the clothes the victim was wearing at the time of his disappearance. The clothes and other belongings were buried with him in the villa," the source said.
Based on forensic reports and other information gathered from the family of the deceased and others, Anees was officially charged.
