An oasis of fun

What? Waterfalls in the UAE? A friend told us about a natural cascade of water among rugged wadis inland from Zubarah to the north of Fujairah. Seeing is believing, so what better way than checking it out ourselves? We hit the road to hunt for the hidden destination of Wadi Al Wurrayah and the waterfalls.

As desert inhabitants seeking out a desirable treasure in a flourishing oasis, we navigated our Jeep Cherokee Classic eastwards.  Located on the road to Dibba from Khorfakkan, we drove 184 kms to our destination by taking the Sharjah-Dhaid-Fujairah highway from the World Trade Centre in Dubai.

Upon arriving at the T-junction at Masafi Friday Market, we took a right for Fujairah and drove towards Khorfakkan. Five kilometres past the Oceanic Hotel on the road towards Dibba, we took a U-turn and looked out for a right turn at the East Coast Garage leading us to the Wadi Al Wurrayah.

Off the main road and onto a tarmac path in the direction of mountainous formations, we drove past the last public phone booth at four kms and realised mobile reception ceased soon after that. There are no proper signs but we were told that four white pillars demarcated the area where we had to turn off-road. However, we had to rely on experimentation and we looked out for natural signs.
