Al Wasl won the President's Cup in volleyball, beating their traditional rivals Al Jazira 3-2 in a competitive encounter held on Friday night at Al Khaleej Club at Khor Fakkan with games ending 25-22, 17-25, 25-15, 21-25, 16-14.
The two teams presented the attendance with a feast of entertaining volleyball and proved their talents that made them share the honours of the game this season as Al Wasl won the league and the President's Cup while Al Jazira won the Federation Cup and the Super Cup.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Obaid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the board of directors of Al Wasl Club who attended the match, praised the performance of his team but said that he was not pleased with the two clubs monopolising all the honours and that new clubs should come forward to compete which will be a healthy change for the improvement of the game in the UAE.
Sheikh Mohammed also praised the performance of Al Jazira team and said that they lost the final game because they were under tremendous pressure.
Abdullah Rajab, the national coach of Al Wasl, said winning the President's Cup has a special value because it is related to the Leader of the UAE. "The match was a thriller and our experience had the last word to decide the winners. We are very happy with the achievement." Rajab had led Al Wasl to six President's Cup victories and seven league titles.
Miroslav, the coach of Al Jazira, said that the match was strong and competitive but his team was not lucky. He added that his team would come next season more stronger as his young players would gain more experience.
