Work on the Dh 60 million interior road project in Al Quoz Industrial Area by Dubai Municipality begins today.
The project forms part of an ambitious infrastructure development plan for this busy industrial area that is witnessing fast industrial growth.
This was announced by Eng. Khalid Mohammed Al Marri, Head of the Roads Construction Section at the Municipality's Roads Department, who noted that the interior roads project for the industrial areas comes close on the heels of a similar project in the Al Quoz Residential Area.
"This project forms part of the development plans for both the residential and industrial areas of the emirate. It also represents the municipality's efforts to provide all kinds of services and facilities to residents," he said.
He added that Al Quoz Industrial Area has of late witnessed a high growth in population thanks to a boom in the industrial activities there.
This has necessitated the construction of an integrated road network in the area in order to serve the existing factories as well as those establishments that are currently being set up. There is also the need for more parking lots for industrial units, he added.
The project includes paving a 48-kilometre road network, restoration of five-kilometres of existing interior roads, and dualisation of four major roads with a total length of 16 kilometres. It also involves installation of street lights along the major roads.
"This project will smoothen traffic flow in all directions and ensure maximum safety on the roads of Al Quoz Industrial Area. Besides, it will give a boost to the economic and industrial activities taking place in the area as vehicles coming in and out of the area will find no delay in reaching their destinations," said Engineer Al Marri.
He added that the municipality is keen on ensuring the safety of all road-users and residents of the area while the project is being carried out.
"All means of safety and security have been provided at the entrances and exits of the housing units in the area. Besides, temporary parking spaces will be provided for schools and mosques along with sufficient warning and sign boards," noted Eng. Al Marri.
Dubai Municipality has recently completed a similar roads project in the Al Quoz Residential Area, east of the second interchange on the Sheikh Zayed Road (Al Safa Interchange), in a bid to provide easy access for residents.
This has also improved the delivery of basic services to the area and reorganised the traffic movement there.
