The state-owned Al Maha Petroleum Products Marketing Company, which was created in 1993, is to open 25 shopping outlets at its petrol filling stations by the year-end the first of which will start functioning at Al Wattiya in Muscat.

This was announced by Talal Al-Zawawi Enterprises, which has been awarded by Al Maha a 15-year license to operate 'Souk', a 24-hour convenient store, at its stations for the sake of motorists and others.

Philip Dixon, managing director of Talal Al-Zawawi Enterprises' retail division, said two more shops will be opened in Seeb and Al Hail by the end of this month and another three in May.

"Convenience stores are a rapidly growing sector of the Omani retail market, offering customers fast and high-quality service with good value for money," he said.

He added that the arrival of 'Souk' will mean more choices for customers.

"The competitive spirit will inevitably lead to improved service and better value for money."

Shell Select and BP Express Shops are already in the market. "Souk will have a unique in-store image, modern bright and professional."

Al Maha, which have in all 27 outlets countrywide, was set up in 1993 through a royal decree.
