Al Ain Women's College (AAWC) launched a three-day orientation programme yesterday for its 638 new students joining the college from this academic year, starting from next week.

The programme has been organised under the theme of 'Together For Success' by the Students Services and Academic Supervisors, according to an official of the college.

The AAWC will welcome all the new and continuing students on Saturday, with the start of the new academic year and classes.

The official added: "The aim of the orientation programme is to emphasise that life in the college is different from secondary schools from where most of the new students are coming."

The orientation programme has been designed to familiarise the new students with various educational programmes available in the college. Teachers and other staff members of the college are also available to discuss with the students about their academic expectations.

The AAWC official explained the programme will also introduce students to the teaching faculties and help them identify various support services. Students are also taken around to see different departments, sections and facilities available in the college.

He said students will be encouraged to take part in extra-curricular activities of the college to enhance and improve their experience and skills. A panel of students has also been formed to hold mutual discussions and experience-sharing.

The college will organise an exhibition tomorrow inside the college premises in which items from the Career Centre, Counselling Centre, the Library, Independent Learning Centre and Student Life Section of the college will be put on display.

The AAWC is part of the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT), one of the most progressive higher learning institutions in the UAE.

The AAWC, which got its new spacious premises in 1996, has experienced tremendous growth over the years. It offers a range of modern programmes in Business, Education, Health Sciences, and Information Technology.
