Over 400 students and members of the general public are expected to take part today in a 3.5-kilometre health run and walk organised by the Gulf Medical College, Ajman, at the emirate's upgraded corniche.

"The run forms part of other activities organised by members of our college magazine, 'Pulse', to celebrate World Health Day, held under the theme 'Move for Health'," explained Iqbal Mansoor, project coordinator.

The magazine is issued through two editions annually, and is involved in health-related community projects.

"The celebrations are aimed at spreading awareness among the general public on the importance of a healthy lifestyle," Mansoor said.

"The public, and students from other colleges have also been invited to join in a fresh beginning to 'move for health', and we have received a very good response.

"We plan to hold such events annually," he added. The mini-marathon, being covered by Ajman TV, will start at the Coral Beach Hotel roundabout at 8.30am, with the finish line at the Ajman Kempinski.

Stops will be set up along the route, offering refreshments and souvenirs. The winner will be awarded a week-long membership for two at Laguna Beach Club, while the first 50 finishers will get vouchers from Giordano. All participants will get a free T-shirt and certificate.

Meanwhile, a week-long 'Move for Health' awareness camp was held at City Centre Ajman, with free physical examinations offered to those interested in assessing their fitness levels.

The college's physiotherapy students, under the supervision of the community medicine department, also worked to spread awareness among the general public about the importance of adequate physical activity in daily life.

The camp, which ended yesterday was supported by Modern Pharmaceutical Co., Omron, Ajman Kempinski Hotel, City Centre Ajman, and Telematics Dubai.
