The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA), Abu Dhabi Chapter, is offering an accounting course entitled Accounting for Non-Accountants starting May 17.

The course is primarily meant for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who plan to become entrepreneurs back home or in the UAE, said Dorie Rafael, president of PICPA's Abu Dhabi Chapter.

"It will also be beneficial for non-accounts staff who would like to gain entry-level qualifications for accounting and finance positions," she said.

The course comprises 24 lecture hours and covers the entire accounting process, from analysis and recording of economic transactions to preparation of financial statements for both service and merchandising concerns.

"After the lectures, PICPA will conduct a workshop where participants will be required to record simulated accounting source documents and transactions in the books of accounts to enable participants to gain a feel of the financial milieu."

Classes will be conducted by members of the professional group every Saturday for eight Saturdays from 7pm to 10pm at the Business Professionals Education Centre.

The completion of the course will coincide with the Accountancy Week which PICPA will observe from July 18-25.
