The Abu Dhabi Securities Market (ADSM), the Abu Dhabi floor of the UAE Stock Exchange, got off to a soft start yesterday. The official opening is scheduled for November 15.
Although no trades took place, the systems are working and the eight licensed brokers are ready for business. Brokers said some investors have registered with the brokers and have been given "unique identification numbers".
"The systems are ready and it is left to investors to register and begin trading," a leading broker said.
Trading of shares may start within four days or perhaps after the formal opening next week, another broker said.
With Ramadan beginning this month, shorter trading hours will prevail until end-December, so real trading may start only next year, the broker added.
