Abu Dhabi to begin second phase of city mapping project

Abu Dhabi: The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City will begin the second stage of Abu Dhabi city mapping soon. The municipality in coordination with all parties concerned has approved the second contract for the mapping project, said a statement issued by the municipality.

The project is intended to build and update the city's base map and expand the geographic database coverage. It is relevant in the context of the Municipality's continuing efforts to develop and implement vital projects in accordance with a clearly defined agenda.

The project will make an integrated database and information infrastructure, which will facilitate proper planning for any infrastructure or development project.

Salah Al Sarraj, Acting CEO of Town Planning Sector, said: "The significance of the project is the database will become a source for planning, analysis and making of various designs and strategic decisions of various government entities and strategic partners".

Spatial data has now become a fundamental requirement for any planning project in the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City and other divisions and departments, he said.
